Good Morning and Happy Belated Fourth of July!

 

Gru and his beloved minions kicked off the Q3 box office officially marking the start of H2 2022. The final total for the Q2 box office is $2.32B and the H1 2022 is $3.65B.

 

The Despicable Me prequel story Minions: The Rise of Gru opened at $107M and hit $125.1M during the 4-day Fourth of July holiday weekend. The film is the highest grossing Fourth of July four- day opening of all time. Led by Steve Carell, the animated comedy was yet another co-viewing success for the 2022 box office. Minions is also the highest grossing opening of an animated film so far this year, the second highest gross opening for the Despicable Me franchise, and the ninth biggest animated opening weekend of all time. Minions fared extremely well with the young demographic as 89% of the audience was under the age of 25 and showed up in full force in costume with exit polls by Comscore and ScreenEngine PostTrak giving it 4.5 stars. The audience was also very diverse as it was 35% Latinx/Hispanic, 18% Asian and 12% Black.

 

Top Gun: Maverick continues its victorious story dropping only -12.8% with $25.8M gross and $33M after the holiday weekend, which is the fourth highest grossing sixth weekend for a film. Its total gross now comes to $571.4M.

Elvis hasn’t left the building coming in third place this weekend with $18.5M and $23.5M after the Fourth of July. Its gross total is getting closer to the $100M mark as it now sits at $71.8M.

 

In its fourth weekend in theaters Jurassic World: Dominion brought in $16M and $19.7M after the holiday weekend. Its gross total is $335.8M.

 

The Black Phone grossed $12.2M bringing its gross total to $49.6M.

 

Next weekend Thor: Love and Thunder will come roaring into the box office, estimated to open at $150M. In the fourth of the Thor franchise, Thor is enjoying his retirement, but realizes he is the only one that can save the gods from extinction. Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, and Christian Bale.
