Despite only one new wide release this weekend, the box office was busy grossing $55M overall.
Uncharted is yet another Tom Holland success grossing $23.2M, bringing its total gross to $83.3M. Sony Pictures CEO said that Uncharted is a, “new hit movie franchise” for Sony and is extremely optimistic about the future of the film due to its success in its box office and its 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Channing Tatum’s Dog has proven to be an audience favorite grossing $10.1M. Its total gross is now $30.9M. The film’s $15M production budget was met and surpassed in its first week of release and continue to increase its second week in theaters. The demographic of the audience was interesting as 54% of the audience is female and 53% were over the age of 35, according to United Artists. This group was the most hesitant about coming back to theaters, so these numbers show this audience is returning.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is not going to go quietly. Now in theaters for 12 weeks, it grossed $5.7M over the weekend making its total gross a whopping $779.8M. It remains the third highest grossing movie of all time, only sitting behind Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens and Avengers: Endgame.
Mystery Death on the Nile stands strong in the fourth-place spot in its third week in theaters. Grossing $4.5M over the weekend, the murder investigation story now has a total gross of $32.7M.
In its fourth week of release, Jackass Forever remains in the top five grossing movies. This weekend, the comedic documentary grossed $3.1M bringing its gross total to $52M.
The newest wide release Studio 666, a film based on the legendary rock band Foo Fighters, opened at $1.5M. Dave Grohl, lead singer of the Foo Fighters, recorded a metal album called Dream Widow and it is based on influences from the film’s plot.
Next weekend, long-awaited The Batman will hit theaters. The film tell the story of Bruce Wayne’s second year as the caped crusader. Batman, played by Robert Pattinson, will find an ally in Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz) and go up against villains such as Penguin (Colin Farrell) and the Ridler (Paul Dano).
