Weekend Wrap Up - a look at this week’s Industry Updates

This past weekend totaled $65.2M in the box office, officially bringing the yearly total over the $5B milestone at $5.04B. The Q3 total now sits at $1.38B.

 

Bullet Train rode into the first-place spot again during its second week of release. The action-packed star-studded film dropped -55.4% tallying $13.4M. Its gross total now comes to $54.4M.

DC League of Super Pets grossed $7.1M in its third weekend in theaters. The animated film has crossed the $50M mark at $58.3M.

 

Top Gun: Maverick snuck its way back into the top five grossing film of the weekend after it was re-released for a fan appreciation weekend with BTS content. The top grossing film of the year added $7.1M to its total allowing it to jump up from last weekend’s sixth place spot to this weekend’s third place finish. Maverick is still in the race for the sixth highest grossing film of all time, now just $5M away. Its gross total is now $673.8M domestically.

 

Thor: Love and Thunder has a slight edge over Nope bringing in just over $5.3M over the weekend. Its total gross is now $325.3M.

 

Nope reached a milestone in the past week crossing the $100M mark. The original film from Jordan Peele has now grossed $107.5M after bringing in $5.3M over the weekend.

 

Though it did not finish in the top five grossing films, the wide release of the Pete Davidson comedic horror Bodies Bodies Bodies brought in a very diverse audience. The $3.25M opening of the film was 52% BIPOC: 23% Latinx/Hispanic, 16% Asian and 13% Black. The audience also skewed young as the total audience was 78% A18-34, slightly favoring males making up 52% of the audience.

 

Next weekend bring Idris Elba’s Beast and anime film Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.

 

Beast is a dramatic thriller about a man (Idris Elba) and his two daughters (Iyana Halley and Leah Jeffries) who take a trip to South Africa and find themselves in the crosshairs of a rogue lion. Its estimated opening is $10M.

 

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is another installment of the Dragon Ball franchise following Goku and his friends who are being challenged by the Red Ribbon Army once again. Its estimated opening is $20M.

 

In terms of new trailer drops, The Menu now has an official trailer. It gives a closer look into the psychological thriller in which the people being fed by a world-famous chef is not who they think he is. Starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicholas Hoult and Ralph Fiennes. Coming November 18, 2022

 

A teaser trailer for Bones and All was also released, giving a quick glimpse into the coming-of-age story with a dark twist. Starring Timothée Chalamet and Taylor Russell. Coming November 23, 2022
