The anti-hero Morbius has finally arrived and helped boost the box office to an impressive $76.6M over the weekend.
Morbius, a story of a biochemist accidentally turned vampire, opened at $39.1M. The vampiric film’s post credits scene that gives a nod to Spider-Man: No Way Home has audiences talking about the future of the Marvel franchise. Males made up 60% of the Morbius audience and two thirds of the audience was in the 18-34 age range.
In its second weekend in theaters, romantic comedy The Lost City still has audiences laughing grossing $14.8M bringing its gross total to $54.5M. It is still receiving praise for its comedic adventures and has fans raving about the film.
Though audiences loved the anti-hero in Morbius, Robert Pattinson’s caped crusader remains in the top five. In its fifth week, The Batman grossed $10.8M bringing its gross total to $349M.
Uncharted has remained within the top five grossing movies since its opening seven weeks ago. The action adventure starring Tom Holland tallied $3.6M over the weekend bringing its gross total to $138.9M.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie finishes within the top five for the third week in a row grossing $1.9M over the weekend. Its gross total is now $29.6M.
This upcoming weekend the box office will be very busy with three new wide releases including Everything Everywhere All At Once, Ambulance and Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
Everything Everywhere All At Once starring Michelle Yeoh follows the story of a Chinese immigrant who has the ability to save the world by connecting with other lives she could have led. Its limited release has already been successful with a huge $50,965 per screen average which has not been seen since before the pandemic. Ambulance is about a heist gone wrong when two robbers, played by Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II end up stealing an ambulance. Finally, Sonic will be back next week for the sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Sonic must fight off the evil Dr. Robotnik with the help of his friends.
